The person that
I admire in my field of study is the Chilean politician President Pedro Aguirre
Cerda who governed my country between 1938 to 1941. He at the University of Chile and was a professor
of Spanish, philosophy and civic education, in addition to their studies of
law. He was part of the radical party, which led him to be elected deputy
between 1915-1921, senator between 1921-1924 and was also Minister of State in
the governments of Juan Luis Sanfuentes and Arturo Alessandri Palma.
He is not an
expert in Political Science, but he was a visionary of his time. He is one of
the people that got me interested in politics and how you can change the
reality of people.
Well his motto
was "To govern is to educate", and its public policies were destined
to that. 500 schools were built, and more than 500,000 children and young
people were able to enroll in an educational establishment. He also developed
technical-professional education, and since Chile was experiencing an era of
industrialization (CORFO 1939), this would help increase productivity and
efficiency. He was a president who was able to relate a social issue such as
education with a view to a better national economic development for the future.
This person is
very important to me because his ideas, his vision on education and industrial
development in Chile were excellent. Politicians now, only know of popular
speeches, popular measures and playing with the faith of the Chilean, but now
we need concrete actions on issues such as education, health, and the economy.
We do not need to listen to a mayor on TV who talks about realities that he has
never lived and solutions that he will never do. In summary, we need a person
like PAC, because Chile needs solutions now.
